Description

SOLD – A four draw brass telescope, signed on the first draw, ‘C. Avizard, Paris’. A clamp is fixed to the fourth draw which holds a steel corkscrew for use when fixing the telescope to a fence post / tree branch. The lens cap is hinged to the front of the telescope. 

It measures 16 inches long when fully open and 6 inches when closed. It gives excellent clear vies.

Damage free and retaining all lacquer.

Charles Avizard teamed up with his brother Rene in general partnership for the production of optical and scientific instruments named, ‘R. & C. Avizard, Paris’ with a registered office in Rue Rambuteau #57. In 1881 they purchased the competing Chavalier business. In 1883 the brothers took over another large company of eminent opticians, the ‘Maison de l’lngeneur Chevallier’, optician du Roi, located at 15 Rue de pont-Neuf.

In 1900 Charles and Rene moved the shop to 21 Rue Royale and merged all their activities under the name ‘Maison de l’lngeneur Chevallier, Avizard Freres, Successors’.
