A large and fine 18th century French sundial in original case. The face is nicely engraved with acanthus leaf foliate designs and a single latitude hours scale in large Roman numerals. Original glass and blued steel needle with brass mounting. Compass and gnomon are fully functional and the entire piece retains a nice intact patina. Wooden case was made for the dial and is covered in black leather with brass hinge and clasp, and lined in black velvet on the interior. Some wear to the leather, see photos for conditions. 7.5 x 6.3 cm dial size, 8.5 x 7.5cm case size
