Description

A good, original 15 x 13 inch ebony , brass and bone octant/reflecting quadrant once owned by Capt. John Holdsworth (Digby, UK-1761-1813).  Probably a gift when he became a Loyalist Captain of merchant ships at age 30. Travelled extensively to New York and Nova Scotia, according to the family records.

The instrument is fully intact (noting 3 small cracks in the frame-stable) and functional with 3 interchangeable coloured filters, double peep (fore and aft), mirrors spidered but intact, wonderful early, numbered arc circle and vernier, streaky/spotty original lacquer, bun feet, no case. Please email me for detailed photos as the website has issues.

Have another 17 inch quadrant with a mahogany frame if this is more to your taste in instruments. Please enquire.
