Horizontal Butterfield type silver sundial.

The top of the upper plate is engraved with four 4-12-8 hour scales (two in Arabic numerals and two in Roman numerals) for latitudes 43/46/49 and 52 degrees. In the center is a foliate scroll decoration with the signature “Butterfield à Paris”. Foldable bird gnomon with foliage decoration, one side of which bears an engraved scale of latitudes from 40 to 60 degrees. In the lower part we find a compass whose bottom is engraved with the cardinal points with a fleur de Lys topped by a blued steel needle with brass pivot. The whole covered with a glass.

The bottom of the plate is engraved with a list of 22 cities with their latitude and the bottom of the compass of six cities with their latitude and the center “first dial”. The spring of the gnomon is decorated with foliage. Small silver baluster foot.

Hallmark Paris 1680/81 (small fleur de Lys).
