A prepared paper is placed inside the cylinder and the cap is replaced. The sun shines through two apertures making a trace on the paper. The paper has to be replaced daily.

I served a Scientific Instrument Making Apprenticeship with W F Stanley and expanded my expertise in other companies. In 1976 I opened a shop in Bermondsey, London. For the last 15 years I have traded in Portobello Road, London but now I am only selling online. I have been a regular exhibitor at the Scientific Instrument Fairs in London and I am a founder member of the SIS Society. I am continuing my scientific instrument restoration business.
