Description

Large square-shaped brass horizontal sundial with four graduated 4/12/18 hour scales in Roman and Arabic numbers for the latitudes of 40, 45, 50 and 55 degrees.

In the center the signature “N. BION A PARIS“.

Topped with an adjustable bird gnomon from 40 to 60 degrees latitude. Featuring a circular compass with a silver background engraved with the four cardinal points N / S / E / W and a magnetic declination line with fleur de Lys.

The back is unengraved, the spring is “chantourné”.

Two turned brass feet forming a support with the compass.

Dimensions: 16.7 cm x 16.7 cm. Height with the gnomon of 9.8 cm.

Datable around 1720.
