Description
An excellent reflecting telescope by ‘Bate, London’ as signed on the back plate, the barrel length is 24″ ( 61 cms ) with a diameter of 4.25″ ( 10.5 cms ); fitted to the ‘T’ bar support via compass joint, tapering column and three folding cabriole legs, it stands 19.25″ high ( 498 cms ). Equipped with an 11″ spotter scope.
The back of the primary mirror has the initials ‘JW ‘ embossed to it, undoubtedly made by Jeremiah Watkins ( w 1798 – 1810 ).
The mirrors are in excellent condition and the telescope gives an excellent image when viewing.
The case has brass handles to the ends and holds both a low power and high power eye-piece and an eye-piece sun filter. The telescope is in excellent all-round condition.
