Description
A fine cased pair of large proportional dividers by Charles Smith of Clerkenwell Ltd. c.1940 in tapering Victorian-style maroon card case with royal blue, velvet liner. Fully functional with scales for circles, plans and solids. Measuring 23 cm. with perfect steel tips, these brass dividers were mass produced during WW II as part of the war effort and it would seem that Smith had the contract for them as other examples exist on this website but these are the most reasonably priced. Case shows minor fraying on the upper leading edge but otherwise perfect. Owner’s initials scratched on surface (J.A. Gammond). Tapering case with gold embossed maker’s name and address applied to inner lid measuring 26 cm. in length with push button closure and double hinges.
