Notes on Aerial Bombing, parts II and III,1917

Category: Scientific Books

An extremely scarce copy (OCLC only lists one other) of a technical manual (9.75″ x 6.25″, 30 pp.) on aerial bombing published in 1917 by HMSO for training Royal Fying Corps bomb aimers or bombardiers. Contains descriptions ,with diagrams ,of various bomb sights (e.g., C.F.S., Batchelor Bomb Aiming Apparatus, etc), and instructions for their use, as well as discussions of bomb aiming techniques, including one employing a camera obscura. WW1 saw bomb aiming go from merely throwing bombs and projectiles out of the cockpit to the emergence of relatively sophisticated bomb sights employing physics and optics. This copy belonged to an American armorer stationed at the U.S. Ordnance School in St. Jean de Monts, France. Condition: cover sound but stained and toned, contents very good.
