Old brass microscope, signed on the foot, ‘J. Swift & Son. 81 Tottenhan Court Rd., London’. Quite clean condition, the body tube and thumb wheels still retaining excellent gold lacquer. There is a large graduated fine focus wheel to the top of the limb. The draw tube has a thumb wheel rack and pinion to adjust the inner draw tube (rather than a push / pull method); total height is 16.75″ fully drawn and 11.5″ with both draw tubes down.
The microscope is equipped with a double nose-piece, an excellent 1 & 7/8″ double sided mirror and a sub stage diaphragm / condenser, adjustable with a large thumb wheel.
Accessories include 3 eye-pieces (one marked ‘A’, another, ’12. Compens-Ocular’).
Objective in canister engraved ‘1 in’.

The mahogany case measures 12.75″ x 8″ x 6.5″ and has a working lock and key. The leather strap to the side is broken and lost.

My stock has included some fine items from museums and colleges, which were surplus to their requirements.
