Description
Oval silver sundial signed CHAPOTOT A PARIS dated circa 1690.
The upper face has three hour scales graduated from 4 to 8 and from 5 to 7, one in Roman numerals and two in Arabic numerals.
In the centre is a small foliate decoration with the signature “CHAPOTOT A PARIS” above. Mobile bird gnomon with foliate decoration, one side graduated for latitudes from 40 to 60 degrees.
On the lower part a compass marked with the four cardinal points with magnetic declination at about 10° West. Blued steel needle with brass pivot, topped with a glass.
The back engraved with a list of twenty cities and their latitude, the gnomon spring decorated with acanthus leaves and the underside of the compass with a rosace of spiral acanthus leaves. Two hallmarks: small fleur-de-lys (c.1690) and ciborium (test 1705).

After 37 years in Le Louvre des Antiquaires, the Delalande gallery moved early June 2015 to 35 rue de Lille, 75007 Paris, on the other side of the Seine River in the well known antic shops area "le Carré Rive Gauche".

We participate to international antique fairs (TEFAF Maastricht) and are unique partner of the French Maritime Museum.
