Description
SOLD – A four draw telescope signed, ‘T. Cooke, York’, extended length 35″ (90 cms) with a main lens of 2″ diameter giving a magnification of 30x. The height on the tripod is 16″ (40 cms). It has an astronomical eye-piece with a removable sun filter. The telescope gives a fine image.
The case has had a little restoration with a trade label to the inside.
Thomas Cooke worked from 1837 – 1868. He made many large astronomical telescopes that were mounted in municipal parks. His largest work was the Newall telescope which was the largest refractor in the world with a diameter of 25″.
The company became part of Cooke, Troughton & Simms in 1922.
