ADMIRALTY JUNE 17TH 1870 RETIRED LIST ) THE ARTIFICIAL HORIZON HAS A GLAZED ROOF TYPE COVER, WOODEN MERCURY TROUGH & BOXWOOD MERCURY BOTTLE WITH IVORY FUNNEL IN ORIGINAL DOVETAILED MAHOGANY BOX WITH GEORGE WHITBREAD TRADE LABEL IN LID. 7.3/8" x 5.1/4" x 4.3/4" INCHES. THE GREENWICH HOSPITAL SCHOOL WAS FOUNDED IN 1712 AS PART OF GREENWICH HOSPITAL IT WAS A CHARITABLE INSTITUTION FOR THE AGED, INFIRM & YOUNG AND WAS ESTABLISHED TO PROVIDE BOYS FROM SEAFARING BACKGROUNDS TO LEARN MATHS & NAVIGATION. IT WAS LOCATED IN THE BUILDING WHICH NOW HOUSES THE NATIONAL MARITIME MUSEUM.
