Large 8vo of 136 pages ; contemporary red half-roan.
Rare Belgian book on microscopy by Auguste Zune who developped a binocular microscope made by Nachet and a spectroscope for the analysis of the butter.
The present “Traité de microscope” bears the number “I” and should have been the first volume of a large treatrise on microscopy in 5 tomes but the tome 2 to 5 were never printed. Finally, Zune published two another books : one the same year in 1889 of the analysis of the driking water and later in 1892 an micorscopical analysis of the butter (in which he presented its binocular microscope and his spectroscope).
In t he present treatise, he describes first what is a microcope, an objective, an eyepiece, how we can enlighten the plate and all about the different classical accessories including a polarizing appratus invented by him and made by Reichert. Second, he discusses about the major European maker from the time : Nachet, Zeiss, Hartnack, Reichert, Himmler, Dumaige, Leitz and Bézu & Hausser.
Then he explains how to use a microscope and how to well preserve it.
Finally, he gives a critical bibliography of the books on microscopy from the time.
A rare Belgian-French handbook on the microscopy.
