Description

THIS DIAL WAS INVENTED BY MR J HENDERSON M. Inst. C.E. HENDERSON’S DIAL HAS FOUR SIGHTS, THEY ARE SLIT SIGHTS AVOIDING HORSE HAIR WHICH WAS PRONE TO CANDLE DAMAGE, THE COMPASS BOX WAS MADE LARGER, 6″ DIA. THE NEEDLE BEARING WAS A RUBY APPOSED TO AGATE. PLEASE NOTE THE SILVERED COMPASS WITH MINING FEATURE OF WEST & EAST TRANSPOSED. THE DIAL WITH THE 4 SIGHTS RESEMBLES THE 18TH & EARLY 19TH ENGLISH CIRCUMFERENTORS. THE DIAL HAS A INVERTED HALF CIRCLE WITH SCALES BOTH SIDES & CROSS WIRE SIGHTS, ALL THUMB SCREWS PRESENT, FOLDING MAGNIFIER. EARLIER IN THE 19TH CENTURY THE MAIN CORNISH INSTRUMENT MAKER WAS WILLIAM WILTON OF ST DAY, ITEMS BY WILTON STILL TURN UP, ALTHOUGH NEWTON WAS ACTIVE IN THE LATE 19TH CENTURY INSTRUMENTS BY HIS COMPANY VERY RARELY COME ON THE OPEN MARKET.
