Description
This is the very scarce specimen volume of this important manual on dyeing, dating from the early years of artificial dyes. The text volumes are common but the specimen volume is rarely seen: Rare Book Hub records only one copy for sale, in 1997.
8vo; 24 leaves with samples on rectos. Condition is very good: the cloth binding is a little scuffed, rear hinge starting but the whole still holding firm; early ownership inscription (1895) to the title-page; specimens generally exceptional, noting only slight loss to one specimen (10mmx5mm loss to lower edge of no.143, scarlet).
Author: Edmund Knecht, Christopher Rawson and Richard Loewenthal
Title: A Manual of Dyeing: For the Use of Practical Dyers, Manufacturers, Students, and All Interested in the Art of Dyeing
