SOLD – A nice little 6 draw pocket telescope, signed on the second draw, ‘Thomas Jones, 4 Rupert St., Leicester Sq’. It measures 4.25″ collapsed and 16.25″ fully drawn, with eye piece dust slider and leather tan barrel. The extra deep lens cap contains a 1″ compass which is balanced on a central jewel, the dial with directional points and inscribed to the outside in degrees from 0 – 90 – 0 – 90 etc, in increments of 5 degrees. The compass is covered with convex glass. A small lever to the outside of the lens cap will lock the dial in position.
The telescope gives fine images when viewing, the stitching to the barrel cover is perfectly intact, no dents, damage free lenses, the draws moving nice and smoothly.
Thomas Jones is recorded as working at 4 Rupert St, London from 1851 – 1859.
