Signed on the first draw, ‘W & T Gilbert, London, Improved’. The Company worked from 1819 – 1831. The ‘Improved’ area was simply a black glass added to the eye slider for looking at the sun (not recommended).
Extended it measures 29.5″ (75 cms) and closed, 9.75″ (25 cms) with a main lens of 1.5″ (40mm) diameter, the telescope giving a magnification of 22 x and gives an excellent image.
In very good condition and comes with a later wooden display stand.
