Two Revolutionary War era metacarpal saws, both with tapered-octagonal handles. The handle of the larger of the two ( the one at the top of first image) is an exotic wood, perhaps mahogany. $295.00. The handle of the smaller of the two is ebony. $350.00. Both are in vg condition. Very similar saws can be found in sets with provenances linking them American Revolutionary War surgeons, e.g., a set belonging Charles McKnight, Surgeon General of the Continental Army in Smithsonian collection. Also see Edmondson, AMERICAN SURGICAL INSTRUMENTS (1997: 7).
