Description
An unusual bifold (sprung), brass simple/compound hand held magnifier/microscope with knurled screw adjustment of focal length and three interchangeable and stacking lenses in perfect condition. Magnification when all three lenses stacked is ~20X (see last photos). Overall length is 3 1/2 inches (8.5 cm.).Together with a red painted edge, diamond etched slide labelled “Bambusa”(bamboo) showing cross and longitudinal sections (perfect) held in place by a pair of brass forks. Delightfully simple and well engineered, operationally. Hard to date but appears to be c.1850 judging by the knurling of the adjustment nut/knob. English.
