Description

With the exception of a few missing screws (stable as it is also pinned at both ends), this unusual rolling rule is in fine overall condition. Having the usual scales of proportion/ratio on the back and a protractor with an additional scale marked CHO (chords) on the front, it does NOT have the later scales  for the trigonometric scales of RUM, SIN, TAN, etc. Also, the roller function (in brass and steel) does NOT cut through the ruler as in later examples such that it can only be used for rapidly drawn lines whilst inverted (at an angle of 5-10 degrees). This may have been an apprentice piece by Ramsden’s future foreman ???? Signed M. BERGE*LONDON, it is a rare example of this style of bone rolling ruler.
