Description
A very fine and near complete French ? apothecary/avoirdupois, equal arm steel and brass scales. 12 cm. chiselled steel beam with handsome gallows, drop, indicator needle, suspension loop and end/pivot points. Original green stringing to the 5 cm. brass pans. A complete set of stacking/nested cup weights and a near complete set of grain/wafer weights ( 2 grain missing but easily replaced). Oval shaped and carved fruit wood case with wire hinges and chiselled brass C- hooks. Well preserved, early 19th century. Case measures 19 x 6 x 2 cm. deep. The scales construction are very English but based on a French design. No trade label or conversion chart in lid, so difficult to attribute.
