Offered for sale is this nice, clean example of one of the types of Binoculars, as used by German Officers, during the 2nd WW. Manufactured probably at the beginning of WW2 as the actual name “E.Leitz,Wetzlar”, is stamped to the shoulder of the LHS main body. This dates it to C 1940, as after this date, the abbreviated code “beh” was then used. Made probably of a white metal alloy, this is covered in it’s original stippled black leather covering, which is intact, and in vg condition. To the RHS shoulder, is stamped “Dienstglas..10×50..#308986 …H/6400…M”.. This letter “M” denotes “Metric. Individual eye focus is positive to L & R eye. The objective lens is clear with a diameter of 50 mm. Optics are excellent, with a fine clear image. using the Porro 1 system. There is the standard rangefinder to the RHS Telescope body lens. Items of bodywork, not covered in leather, are good, with wear on high spots. Complete with a bakerlite “Benutzercap” and original leather neck sling. There is also it’s original black leather case, in excellent condition, with a leather hinged lid, a complete metal closing catch, probably it’s original leather shoulder strap. To the front top rim of the case is the date ..1942, with a now worn image of the German Eagle logo. Finally, as is standard on instruments such a this, is the leather “Tunic” attachment, fitted to the central aspect of these binoculars, faintly stamped “1940 ELeitz Wetzlar”. NOTE I also have an excellent pair of WW2 German Kriegsmarine 7×50 Coastal Command Binoculars, with Original Case … Item Code 20170110, priced @ £1685. If bought together, a fair price may be negotiated.
