Description
19th-Century Pharmacy Powder-Paper Folder. The base is heavy cast metal, the rest of the device is brass. When the hands are totally closed and in an upward position, it measures 5 1/4 inches tall.
“Dry apothecary and medical prescriptions were often mixed in large quantities and then divided into desired amounts on to folded paper. Although not a standard measurement, these paper packets would be folded and sealed with string and/or wax. Each dosage packet could then be boxed for distribution for the physician to administer to the patient mixed in liquid.”‘Social History Curators’ Group in their Medical Objects in Social History Collection.
