Description

A good size 8 draw nickel silver telescope. The barrel finished in black baleen, signed on the first draw in script, ‘J. Hyde, Bristo’.

It measures 5.75 inches long when closed and 30.25 inches fully drawn and has a crown / flint triplet objective lens of just over 1.5 inches diameter.

There is a dust cover to the eye – piece.

John Moor Hyde worked at 1 Broad Quay, Bristol from 1841 – 1852.

I have no doubt that this telescope was made by Andrew Ross or made to the Andrew Ross pattern. It is excellent for long range viewing. There are no dents and the optics are damage free, giving excellent views.

Contained in original thick leather case with strap and buckle.
