Description
A very fine brass surveying circle with six sights, two of which are mounted on a rotating alidade. The circle measures 15,5 cm diameter. It is signed “Butterfield à Paris” and can be dated circa 1700. It preserves its original cap, which is quite rare.
The instrument is complete with all its sights, its ball joint, and its stand. The circle is divided twice and inverted in 0-180-0 degrees.
In the center, a compass indicates the four cardinal points and their half-division.
The compass is original and in perfect working condition.
15 cm in diameter and 16 cm in height.
An really excellent and early example of this French surveying circle.
