Description
A good mid-sized bench condenser with typical plano-convex lens (no scratches or chips) with an unusually shaped friction fit holding bracket to the steel lens arm (210 mm.) terminating in a fine, knurled knob. Possibly by Baker, for a medium to full sized Victorian microscope. Showing only minor spotting of the bright, golden lacquer the base measures 75 mm. in diameter, the stem 13 mm. in dia., the lens 60 mm. dia. and capable of extending from 160 mm. to 240 mm. (10 inches) in height, horizontally. To fit it into a microscope case you would need to add another few inches vertically, just to be sure. Very sturdy and substantial construction on a weighted brass base and round, pivoting knob with threaded screw. Could be used as an office desk magnifier, if desired. c.1860.
