Large boxwood cylindrical altitude sundial (shepherd’s dial), 18th century
Boxwood and iron; 17.6 cm in height and 3 cm in diameter.
Large turned boxwood cylindrical altitude sundial—known as a shepherd’s dial—unsigned but of French origin, dating to the second half of the 18th century.
The dial is of unusual size, measuring 17.6 cm in height.
It features a lovely patina and is a rare example that has retained its original suspension cord, allowing it to be used.
Attractive engravings of the numerals and the initial letters of each of the twelve months of the year.
Rare to find in this size.
