ALTHOUGH I DATE THIS SCOPE Ca.1850 I BELIEVE IT WAS OWNED BY COMMODORE HENRY LAKE COCHRANE R.N. 1871-1949 WHO HAD A DISTINGUISHED NAVAL CAREER BEING CAPTAIN OF HMS YARMOUTH AND INVOLVED WITH THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE AUSTRALIAN NAVAL AIRFORCE. THIS TYPE OF TELESCOPE IS OFTON ASSOCIATED WITH BIRD WATCHING ( ORNITHOLOGY ) COCHRANE WAS A SERIOUS ORNITHOLOGIST, HE WROTE A PAPER ON THE HOODED DOTTEREL ( HOODED PLOVER ) NATIVE TO AUSTRALIA.
