Description
Offered for sale is a pair of antique induction coil electrical apparatus manufactured by John Ednie of Edinburgh University, Scotland, probably dating to the late 19th or early 20th century. Induction coils were widely used in physics laboratories and educational settings in order to demonstrate inter alia electromagnetic induction for experimental/teaching purposes.
These examples are mounted on mahogany folding bases and feature:
• primary induction coil
• brass electrical terminals
• adjustable discharge contact
• original maker’s plaque
The items retains theirs original measuring scale and folding wooden bases, allowing the instruments to be stored compactly. Such instruments were commonly used in scientific instruction and laboratory demonstrations during the early development of electrical science.

Good antique condition with normal wear consistent with the age of the items.
