Carl Zeiss was born in 1816 and in 1846 he established his first business in Jena. The following year he was already selling his own models. In 1866 he had 200 employees working for him and he sold the 1000th model. This year he began contacts with Ernst Abbe, who developed great innovations and new techniques for optics and became his partner in 1875. In 1888 Zeiss died, but his company continued to be directed by Abbe, manufacturing magnificent microscopes, which reached their peak of prestige around 1900, when the company had more than 1000 employees.
