Description
A fine Victorian brass Aspirator by Arnold & Sons, London, manufactured around 1870. This is an exceptional example of 19th-century British medical craftsmanship, this handsome set is a testament to the precision and elegance of period surgical instruments, ideal for discerning collectors and connoisseurs of medical history.
This Aspirator has a glass tube housed in the brass casing with ‘Arnold & Sons London’ hand etched in a period copperplate script on the side also with graduations marked in ounces. It includes four Trocars in their sleeves, each capped with a brass stopper, the set comes in it’s original fitted leather case with a purple interior, silk inside the lid and with a velvet base. The makers name is marked in gilt in the lid ‘Arnold & Sons Smithfield, London’. A lid at the front lifts to reveal the storage space for the rubber tubes; as is usual for rubber of this age the original tubes are hard and cracked and so have been replaced, however this item will be supplied with the original, broken, tubes as well, should you wish to own the originals. This rare aspirator set would have been used for medical procedures requiring precision and reliability, reflecting the innovation of Victorian medicine. The robust brass construction, elegant turned fittings, and original case make this a striking display piece as well as a fascinating conversation starter.
The catalogue pages are taken from the Arnold & Sons catalogue dated 1873.
