Description

A cased pair of magic lantern lenses in bright brass finish with interchangeable optics by Millikin & Lawley, 165, Strand, London. Various ages (one definitely Victorian-blue velvet pads), the other later. Both with trade labels (one with two). Forward optics and lenses are interchangeable although the thread diameters to the main body of the lantern are different. The larger set has an OD of 63 mm. , the smaller more elaborate set has an OD of 55 mm. (both with coarse threads). The lenses, which have a threaded housing and friction fit variable focus, both have an ID of 35 mm. Virtually unused and with near perfect lacquer, the spring loaded, slider slot size is identical ( 55 x 15 mm.). The mahogany cases both have working locks with keys and measure 9 x 4 x 3 3/4 and 9 x 4 1/4 x 3 1/2 inches respectively. These fine examples of optical accessories are a rarity in this condition.
