28 pieces in total (too many to fit into the slots provided), this case was to accompany a 24 inch Ross #1 Exhibition monocular/binocular model microscope. Substage accessories are all 51 mm. in diameter and eyepieces are all 33 mm. in diameter. Everything is oversized and rarely (if ever) used. The brass bound mahogany case is basically a large cube with double door entry, functional locks and key. 

Substage accessories include stops, analysers, polarizers, oblique illuminators, condensers, etc. 3 eyepieces (not paired), 5 objectives ranging from 2 inch down to 1/8 inch all dated 1856 and having RMS threads (20 mm.). To give you an idea of the scale, the largest objective cansister is 3 x 1 inch in diameter. All are matching and  signed in early early scripts (Rofs). The 1 and 2 inch objectives are of normal size, the rest are oversized with sleeves (covered/uncovered) and correction collars.

Extensive stage accessories including 3 live boxes of varying sizes, forceps, fish/frog plate, wet cell/trough, rotary selenite holder, compressorium and wedges (see photos). I suspect this case came separately from the microscope as it weighs 10 kg. on it’s own and the microscope (with case) would have been 20 kg. Most No. 1 models had a long narrow accessory case within the main case. There is internal space within the case for the possibility of a cut down No.1 or No.2 Ross to make this a travelling compendium however you would need to check your diameters to assure compatability. These accessories are huge !!
