Description

Cylindrical sundial, known as a shepherd’s sundial, made of turned boxwood. Unsigned, but French, dating from the early 19th century.

The small dial measures 8.5 cm in height.

The brass gnomon is beautifully carved (no missing parts, despite the tip appearing broken).

Some cracks in the wood and a small loss of wood at the base at the position of the S for September, but still in usable condition.

The head supporting the gnomon is no longer tightly fitted into the hole in the dial; it is loose.
