Description

Double-plate brass sundial signed “Edm Culpeper Fecit”.

The upper plate features on its top an hour scale in Roman numerals IV-XII -VIII with attractive foliage and foliate decoration on the plate and gnomon.

The lower plate features the signature, the movable arm and a blued steel hand with the letters N[orth] et S[outh] on a brass pivot.

The back of the lower plate is engraved with a list of twenty cities with their latitudes and a rosette.

In its original shagreen case with red velvet interior.

Note: Edmund Culpeper was active in London from 1713 to 1738.

Dimensions: height of 4 cm x width of 5,3 cm x length of 6,5 cm.
