Description

An early and very good 2 1/2 inch single draw Captain’s telescope signed in flowing script “J.P. Cutts, London, Day or Night, Warranted”. Black leather barrel shows little wear, 35 inches extended, 20 inches closed, nice and tight, excellent optics, 2 inch OG, removeable end cap with sliding OG cover. Eyepiece cup/cap replaced in the distant past (probably because the sliding cover was always in the way). No dents or bruises to the draw or body tube. Stitching of the leather barrel is intact. c.1830.

Long before Cutts moved to Sheffield and boasted about being instrument maker to her Majesty and the Company going through many partnerships ( Cutts & Sons, Cutts & Sons and Sutton, etc). this telescope was manufactured at his London address.
