Well equipped with 99% golden lacquer, this advanced student petrographic microscope was seldomly used. Slight scuffs to the anodized bronze horseshoe base numbered 12237, with an unusual centering nosepiece by Thos. Armstrong No.346, Manchester and Liverpool. Mechanically and cosmetically wonderful with micrometer fine focussing to the double objective nosepiece, tight rack and pinion coarse adjustment, fully rotating 360 degree tound stage with micrometer, blued steel stage clips, swing out substage for polariser, perfect double sided mirror and a good assortment of accessories.
Included in the dovetailed mahogany case are a polariser for the substage and nosepiece, 3 objective lenses in canisters (3 inch, 1 inch and 1/4 inch-all enscribed Swift)), 2 eyepiecses (one with adjustable focal length), camera lucida, together with substage stop and condenser inserts. Bertrand slide in lens missing (working on it) but body tube condenser/analyser and Betrand lens present (can be slid in and out of field of view).
Mahogany case measures 15 x 9 x 6 inches deep with shrinkage crack to rear, ornate brass handle with fuctional lock and key.
