Description
A large (8 x 6 x 1 cm.) oval, Georgian hand magnifying glass in T shell and silver. Near flawless lens (a little dirty around edges but no scratches) in silver band with hinge and finger draw. Butterfly/clam shell sprays hand riveted to the covers. Fine overall condition. A rare survivor. Tight and folding construction made for the country gent. Wonderful office desk item. Not hallmarked but tests for silver (at least 90%, probably Sterling but many opticians were NOT members of the Guild). c. 1820.
