Description

A fine brass and anodised brass sighting/mining suspension type compass in original card case ( 5 inch diameter). Made in France but with 8 English cardinal points and a fully engine divided, silvered 360 degree inner raised ring. Suspension hooks with hairs intact, locking tab on edge, jewelled needle points North. As you can see from the photos, this instrument has seen minimal/no use. Hooks and hinge for the card case intact. Wonderful example of a late Victorian c.1890 mining compass. Folding alidades.
