Description

A good brass, unsigned, equinoctial compass/sundial in turned wooden case c. 1850. Uncleaned, silvered hour/chapter ring for sundial measures 3 1/2″ with folding brass gnomen sitting atop a 2 1/2″ fully functional compass with silvered, 4 quadrant, engine divided, cardinal point dial. Folding  latitude arc demarcated on the inside from 20 to 60 degrees. Lacquer to reverse is almost 100%. Wooden case has a shrinkage crack to the base and a professionally made matching lid. Case measures 4 x 1 3/4″ deep. A nice Victorian example.
