Description

A solid brass compass once belonging to Capt. Bain of the 4th Battalion, Middlesex Regiment with full coat of arms/garters and motto. Measuring 4 cm. in diameter and 1 cm. thick, the lid is friction fit and beautifully knurled. The compass itself has a bevelled glass, blued steel needle marked  N and S (points North), chiselled brass pivot point and 16 cardinal points. The silvered dial is broken into 4 x 90 degree quadrants. No damage to the interior or exterior with only minor tarnish/oxidation. A wonderful piece of WW I history.
