Description

Dating from around 1895 and made by Thomas Cheshire, London these English beam scales are designed to weigh up to 1lb in weight. They were in use with the West Riding of Yorkshire authorities. The scales are operated by the bar at the foot of the centre column, which when pressed, lifts the scales off the wooden plinth the weigh items in the brass pan. At the top of the centre column is a pointer which shows when the scales are perfectly aligned and thus achieving the measurement of what is being weighed. No weights are included and the accuracy has not been checked.

The chains and scale pans can be detached easily to allow safer transport

Overall height is 19 inches, plinth width is 14 inches and from the edge of the operating arm to the back of the plinth is 8 inches. All sizes approximate.
