Description
A large mahogany barrelled brass telescope measuring 20.5″ when closed and 36.5″ when open. Signed on the single draw in a left hand script, ‘Made by Rd. Lekeux. 137 Execution Dock, Wapping. Improved Day or Night’.
There are no cracks to the barrel or dints to the brass. The lenses are damage free and the telescope gives an excellent clear image when viewing. The main lens is just over 1.5″ diameter. The lens cap has a threaded centre cap which the user can unscrew (keeping the main lens cap in situ) for use on bright days to avoid light aberration.
Richard Lekeux worked at the said address in 1778.
This is a very clean example and fully functional.
