Description

SOLD – A very large lacquered brass microscope by James Parkes & Son, Birmingham. It is similar in size to a Ross No 1, standing 20.5 inches high when racked down. It has a brass bound case with accessories including:

Six objectives in canister by Parkes including a 1/8 correction collar, body prism, spotted lens, prism box, all in canisters, 2 x live box, 2 x tweezers, 2 x eye-pieces, glass water trough, large frog plate, erecting eye-piece in canister, lieberkuhn with various other accessories including some brass collars / adaptors and many glass slides.

The  nose-piece, objectives etc have a pre RMS thread. The large 3 inch plano concave mirror has an oyster slither on one side.

The brass bound accessory case measures 18.25 x 9.75 x 5.5 inches. There is a thin crack to the lid.

The microscope was purchased by James Watson, conservative MP from 1885 – 1892 and the instrument comes with the original sales invoice, made out to him, from James Parkes & Son for a total of £56 17 6d on May 22 1860.
