Description
Larm Apparatus for Hearing Testing. “This noise-maker device was conceived by R. Barony in 1908 to mask or eliminate the contralateral ear during a monaural hearing test. The ‘noise-box’ has a wind-up clock mechanism that emits a whirring sound.” (HISTORIC DEVICES FOR HEARING, 1984: 84) Diameter is just under 2.5 inches. In excellent cosmetic and mechanical condition–it works perfectly. The hard-rubber ear piece appears to be distorted in the first image but it is in perfect condition. Carl Reiner GmbH is a Viennese firm founded in 1912; it remains in business.
