Description
Perpetual calendar in silver with three discs.
The front, named “PERPETUUM CALENDARIUM” (perpetual calendar), has a movable disc engraved with the days of the week and their astronomical symbols opposite a small window allowing the exact day engraved on the main disc to be read. The rest of this face is entirely engraved with asymmetrical foliage scrolls of the most beautiful effect.
On the back, there is a disc with three windows, five scales and a foliage scroll decoration with an asymmetrical rosette in the centre and a frieze along the edge. The different scales, from the periphery to the centre, are as follows: calendar of months with name and duration, ‘FEST UNDFEYERTAG’ (holidays and public holidays) in red, ‘Tags läng’ (length of the day) and ‘Nachts läng’ (length of the night), ‘Sonnen lauff’ (course of the sun), ‘Aufgang’ (sunrise time and a small sun) and ‘Untergang’ (sunset time and a small sun). All the values read through the windows are engraved on the main disc.
Note: A very attractive perpetual calendar with particularly aesthetic red and black inscriptions.
Dimensions: diameter of 5,6 cm x thickness of 0,16 cm.
Germany made in early 18th century.
