LARGE SEXTANT SIGNED: CARY LONDON. THE ARC IS A BRASS & EBONY SANDWICH WITH A SILVER SCALE MINUS 5 DEGREES TO 140 DEGREES DIVIDED IN 20' MINUTE DIVISIONS, VERNIER READING TO 30" SECONDS OF ARC. RADIUS 9.1/2" INCHES, COMES WITH LONG INVERTING TELESCOPE WITH CROSS HAIRS, ERECTING SCOPE, SIGHTING TUBE, FILTER CAP & ADJUSTING PIN. IN LARGE MAHOGANY KEYSTONE BOX. IN ORIGINAL UNTOUCHED CONDITION, GOLD LACQUER FINISH.

IN MY OPINION THE BOX IS APPRX. 70 YEARS LATER WITH MAHOGANY TOP, THE SIDES VENEERED IN THIN VICTORIAN MAHOGANY VENEERS, VERY WELL MADE WITH CARRYING HANDLE. THE ERECTING TELESCOPE MAY BE A REPLACEMENT. THIS IS ONLY THE THIRD NAVIGATION INST. I’VE HAD IN 45 YEARS WITH BRASS COVERING THE EBONY ARC, AN OCTANT BY TROUGHTON, HALF CIRCLE BY SMITH, NOW THIS SPLENDID EXAMPLE BY CARY.
