Description

A very rare and early example in silver of the innovative and also quite rare of “the new pair of pocket compasses containing the ink and pencil points in its two legs”.

William and Samuel Jones advertised the introduction of this new pockect, compact and mutliple pair of dividers in 1797 and first illustated it in the new edition of the George Adams’s Geometrical and Graphical Essays in 1823.

The present example is circa 1800-1810 of early production.

 

The present innovative pair of dividers has two of its points hiden in their two legs so we can use it like ;

-a large and classic pair of dividers with dry points ;

-a large pair of dividers with ink point ;

-a large pair of dividers with pencil point ;

-a small dividers with ink point

-and a small dividers with pencil points.

 

Everything is well case in a contemporary green case line in vellum.
