Description

Numbered 2591 and as described in the Watson company records as No. 2 binocular with swinging substage and bronze foot (11 and 10 GBP), this rare microscope is a one of a kind. Rarely used with 99.9% of it’s original golden lacquer, it features many accessories (twice as many as will fit in the case) for metallurgical and polarising work. Round rotating mechanical stage, swing out racked substage with a full range of brass objectives (8) ranging from 1/4 to 4 inch. Prism intact. Swinging/pivoting 3 inch plano concave mirror. Locking inclination joint.

This microscope was sold on 25/11/1890 and was the last of it’s kind on the old horseshoe style base. Less than a month later 12/22/90 the Watson works switched to the tripod base normally associated with the popular Fram, Edinburgh and van Heurck models (13 and 5 GBP).

Housed in it’s original mahogany case with leather strap, this fine microscope is the one to own. More information and photos upon request. Extends to 18 inches tall. Cosmetically and mechanically perfect with Damask style stage engraving.
